Dear Maddox,

Thank you.
Thank you a million times over (and over) again. Thank you for the things you have already taught me in our five short months together. Thank you for the things you have no idea you are about to teach me in this lifetime.
I used to wake up and tell myself to live each day to the fullest, no regrets; to treat every single person as if there was no tomorrow..... I don’t say this anymore.
I simply do it.
Maddie baby, because of you, I have learned the true meaning of “unconditional love.” You showed me what that was the moment you were born and innocently looked into my eyes, begging me to love you. I admit, it took me some time to process, but darn it, you have already taught me in weeks what some people never learn in a lifetime.
Thank you for loving me.
What else have you already taught me? At our beginning, I hesitated picking up my camera, but once I made the decision to take that first photo of you sunbathing in the warmth of the window at the hospital, my passion to photograph is burning even stronger. In addition to photographing, I have pursued another dream, something I seemed to be dragging my feet with. I finally sat down and learned how to use Photoshop. Look above, that’s the first photo ever edited by yours truly!
Thank you for teaching me.
Another one of mommy’s dreams was to become a cowgirl (or at least learn to ride without feeling like I am at the mercy of the horse). I also know riding will help you develop (trunk control, walking patterns, grasp, hand eye coordination, communication, self care and my list goes on and on). And because of you, Mommy has finally started taking riding lessons!
Thank you for pushing me.
When I was in grad school one of our assignments was to create a personal mission statement. My mission was short and sweet. I wanted “To become the most sought therapist in Northern Michigan.” I now realize that my mission has been achieved.
I am the most sought therapist in Northern Michigan, by you, Maddox Lucille.
You needed me.
What I didn’t realize, was how much I needed you.
You are without a doubt, helping mommy achieve every one of her dreams.
Pretty soon, I promise, it will be your turn.
I love you baby,
Mommy
